Dental implants

Dental implants are used to replace a missing tooth or a number of teeth. An implant is a metal rod (usually made of titanium) that is surgically placed into the upper or lower jawbone where a tooth is missing; it serves as the tooth root and anchor for the crown, bridge, or denture that is placed over it.

It is essentially an artificial root that is implanted into the jawbone. After the Implant is placed, it is left undisturbed until the bone heals around it, a process called osseointegration. Once this occurs, a crown is then place on top of it to replace the missing tooth.
